VLC

VLC is by far the best media player around.  It plays pretty much every media file under the sun from FLV to WMV, DivX and back again.  It works flawlessly with any video format I throw at it.  VLC also offers support for TV tuners, streaming live over the internet and watching DVDs not to mention being able to import subtitles from other sources.
It really is the best media player around.

K-Lite Codec

Unlike VLC, K-Lite is a combination of programs and codecs which provides both a standalone media player and codec integration with Windows Media Player.  So for those of you who like Windows Media Player you can still use it to play any media file plus you have the added bonus of a standalone media player called Media Player Classic which, like VLC, can play any video and audio file imaginable.
I have but one grumble with this software/codec pack which is that it seems very unstable.  I've never been a fan of Windows Media Player anyway but even Media Player Classic crashes a lot.

Still not a bad package just VLC is better.
